Itron Knowledge Exchange Help
You can send messages directly to other Itron Knowledge Exchange users by using
the Private Message option. This feature keeps all email addresses private and does
not reveal them to other users.

You are essential to the Knowledge Exchange. W encourage you visit often and participate
by posting questions and sharing answers.
Registration and Logging In
The Itron Knowledge Exchange is open to current users of the products and applications
that are part of the Itron Knowledge Exchange.
To create an account you will need to click the Join Link. The registration page
will be displayed. On the registration page:
- Enter your First and Last Name in the Full Name textbox.
If you do not wish your fellow members of the Knowledge Exchange to view your name,
you can uncheck the box for ‘Allow other users to view full name’.
- Enter the Company you work for in the Company Name textbox.
If you do not wish your fellow members of the Knowledge Exchange to view your company,
you can uncheck the box for ‘Allow other users to view full company.
- Enter a Sign in Name.
Your screen name is your Forum identity. It appears whenever you post to the message
boards or send private messages. Most members create anonymous names for privacy:
it helps them feel more comfortable participating. Be creative, have fun with it,
but choose carefully- your screen name cannot be changed once registration is complete.
- Enter a Password.
- Enter your Password again. This is to ensure that you typed the password
the way you meant the first time.
- Enter your E-mail address.
Certain features of the site, such as subscriptions, will only work if you enter
your real e-mail address. Also, the system will require you to validate your e-mail
address by replying to an e-mail sent to the address you enter. Making sure that
all users have valid e-mail addresses helps the administrators maintain a helpful
community.
- Enter your E-mail address again. This is to make sure you typed it correctly.
- If the Timezone indicated isn't the timezone you're in, change the timezone
to match your location.
- Select what forums you are requesting access to. The moderators will verify that
you are a user of the software when they approve access.
- Review the Terms of Service and select the “I accept the services agreement” check
box to request access to the site.
- Click on Request Access
After successfully registering you should have a username and password. Once your
account have been approved,
- Click Login at the top of the Knowledge Exchange home page
- Enter your sign in name
- Enter your password
- Click Sign in
The Itron Knowledge Exchange requires a moderator to activate your account before
you can login. Once your account has been activated you will receive an email informing
you that you can now participate in the Knowledge exchange.
Browsing and Searching
Many users like to get started by exploring the message boards. Choose a category
that best fits your topic. Next, look over the list of boards, find one whose title
pertains to your question or comment then click on its title. Take some time to
read ones that look promising by clicking the message title, or subject. You can
use the
Previous/Next buttons to browse to other pages and messages.
To search the Forum, type keywords for your topic into the
Search Forum text
box at the top of the screen, choose the applicable area in the drop-down list box
and click the Search button. A page of search results will be displayed. Browse
the search results in the same manner you would a message board.
To perform a more in-depth search, click the
More Search Options link next
to the Search button on the results page. This page further constrain your search
terms.
You can also search for Forum members by clicking the
Users tab on any search
results page and using the search options on this page.
Personalization
Your signature is text that appears at the bottom of every message you post to the
boards.
- Login to the Forum.
- Click the Edit Profile link.
- Click on the Signature and Bio tab.
- On the Signature and Bio tab, fill in the text you want for your signature
in the Signature field.
- Click Save.

Posting Messages
Go to the board you want to post on, and click the
Write a New Post link
above the message list.
On the
Write a New post page, you will see a
Subject area and a
Message
area.
Enter the subject of your post in the
Subject field. This is the only part
of the message that appears on the message listing page, so try to make it something
that will be clear and concise. Use keywords about your topic.
Type your message in the
Message field. Put details about your topic here.
If you are posting a technical topic, it is helpful to include all pertinent information
regarding your inquiry in the body.
You can use the controls to change the fonts, colors, and other aspects of your
message. You can add smiley faces using the smiley menu or
Options tab. And
you can format the text at the character or paragraph level.
You can click the
Preview Tab to see what your post will look like on the
boards.
When you are happy with your message, click the
Post button. Your message
will be added to board and everyone else on the board will be able to read it.
Use the Reply button in a message to write a response to a particular post. You'll
see a screen similar to the Post Message screen. There are a few differences:
When you reply to a post, the subject line will be filled in for you automatically.
You can change it if you want.
You can use the Quote Post button to paste the message to which you are replying
into the body of your reply.
Also, when you post a message as a reply, it will be added to the existing thread.
It won't create a new thread.
When one or more people reply to a particular message, a "thread" is created. A
thread is a series of posts that go together. If you post a new message, then that
starts a new thread. If you reply to an existing message, then that message becomes
part of the original message's thread.
Notification of Posts
To receive notifications when posts are made to a topic or thread, use subscriptions
or RSS feeds as described below.
If you add a topic or post to your subscriptions, the system will send you an e-mail
every time someone creates a new topic or posts or replies to a message on Itron
Knowledge exchange.
To add a topic to your Subscriptions
- Login to Itron Knowledge Exchange.
- Click the Edit Profile link.
- Click the Email tab.
- From the Email Options section, choose Yes to Enable Email Notifications of forum/thread
subscriptions and replies to my posts.
- Go to the topic or post you want to subscribe to.
- Click the More Options button below the topic.
- From the Send Email drop-down list, choose “when new topics are posted in
this forum” or “when new posts are posted in this forum”.
- Click the Apply button
To remove any topics from subscriptions, repeat steps 5-8, changing the Send Email
drop-down selection to “never”.
To add posts from a message thread to your Subscriptions
- Login to Itron Knowledge Exchange.
- Click the Edit Profile link.
- Click the Email tab.
- From the Email Options section, choose Yes to Enable Email Notifications of forum/thread
subscriptions and replies to my posts.
- Open the message to which you want to subscribe to
- Click the Email Subscriptions Disabled button above the message thread. The
button will change to Email Subscriptions Enabled
To remove any posts from subscriptions, open the message and click the
Email Subscriptions
Enabled button to change it back to
Email Subscriptions Disabled.
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication”, which is an XML-based format for content
distribution. To use RSS, you will need a feed reader or aggregation service
Once you have a reader, go to any of the topics or messages you would like to receive
a feed on and click the
RSS Available button on the bottom right of the screen.
This will take you to a page where you can copy and paste the URL into your RSS
reader.
Priviate Messages
You can send messages directly to other Itron Knowledge Exchange users by using
the Private Message option. This feature keeps all email addresses private and does
not reveal them to other users.
- Login to Itron Knowledge Exchange.
- Locate the user you would like to send a private message to. You can send a private
message by a) clicking the user’s name and choosing the send private message option,
or b) from a message thread, choose Contact > Send a private message.
- In the private messenger window, click Send a New Message.
- If you have created a Friends List, and you want to send the message to a listed
friend, select the friend from the Send to Friend pulldown menu.
- If you want to send to someone not in your Friend List, type the person's user name
in the Send to field.
- Type the subject of your message in the Subject field.
- Type the body of your message in the Note field.
- Click Send Message at the bottom of the page.
The message will be sent to the other user. The message will also appear in your
Outbox.
- Login to Itron Knowledge Exchange.
If you have any new messages, a yellow envelop icon will appear next to the Messages
link and the number of new messages will be indicated.
- Click the Inbox Link at the top of the page.
The Private Messenger window will be displayed.
Note: You can also view private messages from your profile.
- Click the Subject of the message you want to read.
The full message will be displayed.
- After you have read the message, you can click Reply to respond to the message.
- To delete messages, from the main Private Messages screen, select the message you
would like to remove and click the Delete button.
- To add the sender to your friends list, choose the Add User to Friends List options
from the Favorites button.
- If you don't want a user to send you any more messages, you can click on the Add
User to Ignore List link to add the person to your Ignore List.
